The online School of Multimedia Communications offers Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees with an emphasis on short form production and media specialty. Here you will learn the newest techniques and technologies in communications from award-winning professionals in broadcast and online media.
Today's media professional needs to be comfortable behind and in front of the camera — and in front of the computer. In this program, you will write, shoot, edit and appear in broadcast-quality productions, applying the standards and professionalism of broadcasting to Web 2.0 delivery — from YouTube to your own video site. You will create news reports and podcasts, webisodes and mobisodes, blogs and commercials.
You will learn all of this from working professionals at the nation's top art school for Visual Communications. A principle goal of the department is to help you specialize in a career. You will learn skills unique to sportscasting, fashion journalism, investigative reporting, interactive and multimedia development, and how to cover everything from entertainment to food to finance. We call it "You Media."
The portfolio we help you build will reflect the skills most in demand in the industry. Our
students intern at online companies such as CBS Interactive, CNET, Flycast, and at broadcast
studios of ABC, CBS and Fox. There are countless more opportunities at:
Web-based video publications
Hundreds of cable channels
More than 800 TV stations around the U.S.
Broadcast operations around the world
While some of the classes in the online Multimedia Communications degree program can be successfully completed on either a Mac or PC, the program requirements reflect the fact that most industry professionals work on the Mac platform. A significant number of courses for this degree require software that is only available for the Mac. Online students should refer to the online course description pages for details. If you are pursuing this degree and intend to purchase a new computer, you should plan to buy a Mac.
